Daily flights from DAR ES SALAAM and ARUSHA

Tanga city is serviced by Coastal Air and Auric Air, with three scheduled flights daily too and from Dar es Salaam (Coastal & Auric Air) with one too and from Arusha daily (Coastal Air). Daily flights generally originate in Dar es Salaam, fly to Tanga via Zanzibar or Pemba, with one flight going onto and returning from Arusha, by Coastal Air.

Both Arusha and Dar es Salaam have international flight connections,Kilimanjaro (JRO – Arusha) and Julius Nyerere (DAR) International airports.

How to get here by road….

From Arusha or Dar by road to Tanga (paved road – 6 hrs from Dar and 7 hrs from Arusha). From Tanga, take Horohoro border road , for 38km, turn right and follow signs to FEP, 10km away – under an hour. Tanga to the turnoff is paved,  the final 10km to FEP, is an all weather dirt road (it’s condition is aligned with the rains…). Buses ply all routes from all major centers including Mombasa, where we can meet you at our turnoff on the Horohoro road.

Please ensure you have sufficient fuel for your return trip to Tanga or elsewhere, as there is presently no fuel station near to Fish Eagle Point. There are stations presently being built. (early 2018)

Transfers from Tanga or upcountry…

Dhow or vehicular transfers from Tanga can be arranged. The dhow trip is truly memorable, beautiful and tranquil 2-3 hour sail (or motor if the wind doesn’t participate!) We are able to arrange road transfers from either Dar or Arusha should you require, please advise in good time to make arrangements.

By bus…

There are bus services from all centers in the region… so connecting here by bus is easy and very cheap, but timely. Dar, Arusha are the major centers from where you can get to us most easily. Use the bigger buses which are mostly direct and hardly stop to load and unload passengers at every village, they are generally bound for Tanga, from where we can arrange transfers, or if you prefer the cheaper option – jump onto a local smaller bus (Daladala) heading north for Hororhoro, where you can be dropped off at our turn off (38km from Tanga) and we will collect you at no charge. Daily buses to Tanga from Kenya too, are numerous, and again will drop you at our turnoff (25km into Tanzania from the border), where we will collect you. These pickups must be prearranged.

General Information

Health – Tanzania is a malarial area, therefore prophylactics are necessary. Bottled drinking water is available. Ensure you bring sunscreen (SPF 30-50), appropriate clothing and suitable coral shoe wear (ie crocs or diving shoes with rubber soles). We do stock a limited supply of shoes, sunscreens and other toiletries.

Communication and Electricity – Wifi is available but only with limited bandwidth, via satellite, (downloading of large files, movies, photos or computer updates are not possible) . Mobile phone coverage provided by Airtel, Vodacom, Halotel and Tigo (also Kenya service works).

Power (220v) is is available at the mess area, by generator, mostly only in the evenings. We are in the process of remodelling our  rooms using only solar lighting. Due to the limitations of this power system there will be limited charging facilities in the rooms off USB. Charging at the mess area is possible for 220v needs.

Our mission is to be eco-friendly, therefore we ask that nothing natural be removed from the surrounds, including shells and plants. Care too should be taken on the delicate reefs, please take care of them for us all.

Tanga town, has an interesting history and was a very important sisal growing background. A historical account can be read in the following downloadable guide.
